This is an overview of an exciting new service for Cornell students and professors available Fall 2008.  We are searching for professors as partners; due to the nature of the service, only lectures with over 100 students are eligible.  If you are interested for your class and would like to meet for half an hour or so to see a demonstration, please contact:

What is VideoNote?

VideoNote is a web based service that captures lectures with high quality audio, video and linked notes to be placed online for students to view.  We capture the same feed as someone in the lecture would experience.  By using database and video streaming technology, we link all the notes to the video and make them searchable.  Users can instantly jump to any part of a lecture that contains the topic that they need to review.  We also collect additional data to determine which topics students are having difficulty with.

Who is it for?

            Professors benefit from:

·         A tool to help their students review material and enhance understanding

·         Instant feedback on specific topics that students are having difficulty with (before the exam results demonstrate this!)

·         Flexibility in preparing lectures (i.e. can be less heavily reliant on pre-prepared PPT) while still having a record of everything to review and search afterwards

·         The ability to add any supplemental video material (we make this available to the whole class for free) to clarify topics

Students benefit from:

·         A comprehensive, convenient, and interactive reviewing tool to improve understanding of course material

·         A tool to help make up for missed lectures due to illness; sports; job interviews; family emergencies; etc.

·         A discussion board for asking questions and interacting with other students and the professor

·         The option to purchase either single lectures or whole semester subscriptions

·         Free access in ACCEL in Carpenter Library

Our Goal

As devoted students, we know that reading notes or a textbook is no substitute for attending a lecture with an excellent professor.  However, we believe that capturing the experience to revisit and search through would greatly improve the learning process and understanding of the material.  VideoNote is a service created by Cornell students and recent graduates.

Potential Concerns

We understand that this is a new service and that you may have some concerns about several issues.  Please be assured that we have been working on this for quite some time and have likely addressed many or all of them.  For example, we use the most up to date technology to assure the security of the intellectual property.  If you'll be kind enough to meet with us for a brief discussion we would be happy to address any of your potential concerns.
